School nurse uses defibrillator to save boy
Donna Musser, a school nurse, saves a boy's life using a defibrillator. Currently, defibrillators are not mandatory in Arizona schools.
Donna is happy to report that today, little Michael is doing well and feeling great!

A near tragedy threatened to mar what was otherwise a glorious Spring weekend for the 2007 Arizona Short Course Masters Swimming Championships at the Brophy swim complex in Phoenix, Ariz.

After it was determined that the Town of Paradise Valley’s Cardiac Science AED units could not be
updated to meet the new guidelines for their town, they purchased new Zoll AEDs from Desert AED, and then decided to donate the old units, as they are still
in good working order and have never been used.
Chief Wintersteen took it to the Town Board and presented them with an idea from Marc Ashton to donate the old AED to the Foundation for Blind Children. The Board voted and approved the measure to donate them. Chief Wintersteen and Officer Kevin Albert then presented the AEDs to the Foundation’s Board President, CEO, and a Board member who is a Town of PV resident. Chief Wintersteen also said a
few words at the Board meeting and Officer Kevin brought his motorcycle out for the preschool kids to enjoy.

Dr. Shukla’s Foundation
Dr. Himanshu Shukla has dedicated his career to giving back to the community. After arriving in Arizona, Dr. Shukla heard of the 17 deaths on Arizona School Grounds over the last three years, and he vowed to
do something about it. He has been responsible for donating over 50 Automated External Defibrillators to Arizona schools, (SUSD, PVUSD, MUSD, and CCUSD).
Dr. Shukla and his Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute are
very involved in the latest cutting edge research in
the study of cardiac diseases and heart rhythm
disorders (electrophysiology) leading to improved
survival rates through investigation, diagnosis, testing, and treatment of related cardiac problems. The
